Little Step No. 7

Step No.7

What to do:

Make this easy turmeric latte

Why this step works:

Most people understand the importance of drinking plenty of water daily; in fact, staying well hydrated helps just about every aspect of your health and it’s often one of the first changes I recommend. It doesn’t always have to be plain water though; it’s lovely to alternate with hot drinks, especially during these cool winter months.

As much as I enjoy a ‘normal’ cup of tea, I know it doesn’t suit me particularly well; it can make me feel a bit jittery and it’s not the best choice for staying hydrated either; so I’m always on the lookout for hot drinks that ‘deliver more bang for their buck’ – ones that not only feel like a nurturing cuppa but provide health benefits too.

I wanted to share this lovely turmeric latte recipe with you, because it is exactly that.  In fact, it ticks every box – it’s a big hug in a mug with health superpowers.

This recipe delivers:

  • Hug in a mug – The bright yellow spice turmeric adds an uplifting shade of sunshine to your drink!

  • Curcumin – Not only does turmeric turn your drink yellow, it supplies curcumin; a powerful plant compound with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant & immune-supportive activity. Curcumin is notoriously difficult to absorb though, and is best combined with some form of fat, hence why it works well with full fat milk.

  • Cinnamon - Helps to support blood sugar balance which underpins hormonal and stress balance, and supports immune function too.

  • Ginger - Has anti-inflammatory, gut-supportive & pain-relieving properties.

Easy turmeric latte

You will need:

  • 350ml non-dairy milk / full fat dairy milk

  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • ¼ tsp ground turmeric

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Method:

  1. Put aside any preconceptions you might have about what turmeric and milk will taste like together; just give it a go and I promise you’ll be very pleasantly surprised!

  2. Place all ingredients in a high powered blender and mix together until combined (or whisk together by hand if easier)

  3. Add to a saucepan and heat gently.

  4. Once hot add to mugs and serve sprinkled with a bit more cinnamon

I find this particularly nourishing in the middle of the afternoon, when the addition of spices wakes up my senses and my concentration for the rest of the work day, but you can enjoy it any time x
